Musical Easter Eggs

With today’s culture, people seem to love searching for any hidden meanings or things that seem to slip over other people’s heads. Especially in things we are constantly exposed to such as music. I have compiled a list of my top five favorite lines from songs that have little hidden meanings or “Easter eggs,” some with which you may already be familiar.

If You Seek Amy by Britney Spears

Lyrics- “All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy”
What Am I Missing? To kick things off, lets start with one of the most famous “hidden” lyrics in pop culture. They lyrics are basically saying that both men and women are begging to “fuck” Britney, “fuck” being spelt by the way the words sound when you say “if you seek Amy.”

Sexy and I Know It by LMFAO

Lyrics- “Its Redfoo with the big Afro, and like Bruce Leroy, rock out the club, yo”
What Am I Missing? This line is a reference to a character in the movie  The Last Dragon who is on a quest to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishments
**BONUS ROUND** Members Redfoo and SkyBlu of the band are actually Stefan Gordy and Skyler Husten Gordy who are son and grandson of the founder of Motown Records, Berry Gordy Jr. The Last Dragon’s executive producer? Berry Gordy himself.

Partition by Beyoncé

Lyrics- “He popped all my buttons, and he ripped my blouse, He Monica Lewinsky-ed all on my gown”
What Am I Missing? Well, who isn’t familiar with Monica Lewinsky and her infamous times under President Clinton?

Partition by Beyoncé

(Since we have already looked at the official music video, here is French choreographer Yanis Marshall’s sizzling routine)

What Am I Missing? Okay this may very well be in my top three favorite lyrics or all time. Since a fair number of readers may not understand French, here is the English translation:

“Do you like sex? Sex. I mean like physical activity, coitus. You like it? Are you not interested in sex? Men think that feminist hate sex but it’s an exciting and natural activity that women love.”

Beyonce, or Queen Bey as her fans call her, stamps out the notion that feminists are nothing more that misandristic, sexless women with these words cleverly masked in what is referred to as “the language of love.”
**Bonus Round** These lyrics are quite similar if not almost identical to the French cut of Julianne Moore’s monologue in The Big Lebowski

Freaks and Geeks- Childish Gambino

Lyrics- “E.E. Cummin’ on her face, now that is poetry in motion”
What Am I Missing? One of the main reasons I love Childish Gambino is because he does slip some amazing lines like this into his lyrics. With the clever use of  E.E. Cummings and poetry in motion it takes two great aspects of the literary world and creates a devious play on words for, for lack of better words, how seemingly awesome it when he is able to cum on his woman’s face.
